The Flying Lions Aerobatic Formation Team has been operating since 1999 using that old favourite the Harvard AT6 aircraft in our shows.
The Harvard is one of the most successful pilot trainers ever built and some 17 000 of them were built between 1940 and 1954. It is a wondeful machine built like a tank with huge crowd appeal sporting 550 HP Pratt and Whitney radial engine that has that inimitable magical sound and fitted with a smoke system which enhances the choreography of the display flown. The team members consists of Scully Levin - Lead Pilot, Arnie Meneghelli - No.2, Ellis Levin - No.3 and Stu Lithgow - No.4. We are a close knit team that eats, drinks, sleeps and thinks flying. The guys are tremendously dedicated in what they do and derive great pleasure and satisfaction from the formation flying and the displayed performed. To be able to climb on board as a passenger and go out on a sortie with the team members is something special that you will remember forever. The flip or sortie lasts from 20 minutes to 30 minutes depending on air traffic. Once over the target one experiences Loops, Barrel Rolls, Stall Turns, Cuban Eights and Straight Rolls. Pulling up to 4 G's in the loop the adrenalin is flowing with its pure exhiliration of flying. There is the noise the beat of the engine and if its a two or more ship sortie the absolutely unique sensation of having a second aircraft only a metre away from you following your every move. It is an experience of a lifetime.
